Kevin Vest Death – Community Mourns Loss of Beloved Athletic Director

A tragic accident occurred early Wednesday morning in McKinney, Texas when a 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by a truck while riding his bicycle to school. The victim, identified as Landon Bourque, was a sophomore at Heritage High School in the Frisco Independent School District.

Fatal Crash Occurs Near Roach Middle School

According to the McKinney Police Department, the fatal crash took place around 5:30 AM at the intersection of Independence Parkway and George Washington Drive. Bourque was attempting to cross the parkway on his bicycle when he was hit by the truck. The driver of the truck stopped after the collision and tried to help the injured teen, but Bourque did not survive the incident.

The location of the crash is near Roach Middle School, where many students were arriving around that time for early morning sports practices and activities.

Teen Was En Route To Football Practice

Bourque was known as an active member of the Heritage High School football team, whose morning practices were scheduled on campus around the time the tragic accident occurred. Parents dropping their kids off for practice that morning reported seeing the teenager's bicycle at the scene and immediately recognizing it was his.

"When we drove by, he saw it was Landon's bike. It was awful, very awful," said Sabrina Elrod, mother of one of Bourque's friends. She and others are remembering him as a good friend who was often the first to welcome new students.

School Community Mourns Loss

The Frisco Independent School District confirmed Bourque's identity and expressed grief over the loss of a beloved member of the Heritage High community. "His loss will be felt by the Coyote family and our thoughts go out to the Bourque family and loved ones," the district said in a statement.

Friends at Heritage High are also mourning the sudden loss of a fellow student they describe as constantly upbeat and kind to others. "He was a great kid, you know. He was a super funny guy. He was always trying to be happy, always trying to lighten the mood," said Nolan Swyres, one of Bourque's close friends.

Investigation Into Fatal Collision Ongoing

The McKinney Police Department said their investigation into the crash is still ongoing. They have not yet determined fault or if any charges will be filed related to the incident.

Bourque's heavily damaged bicycle was removed from the scene by police, along with a pair of headphones. It is unclear whether wearing headphones played any role in the tragedy.

Dangerous Intersection Prompts Safety Concerns

The intersection where the crash occurred is known to be hazardous, due to high speeds and poor visibility. With two large schools nearby, many local residents are calling for increased police patrols and traffic enforcement in the area.

"You gotta think, that could have been your kid. You gotta slow down. I know these streets don't have a lot of lights, but there's no reason to be going this fast in residential areas," said one concerned driver.

Community Mourns Loss of Promising Young Student

The death of Landon Bourque has left the entire McKinney community grieving the loss of a talented young student and athlete who was beloved by his friends and classmates. Though details are still emerging, the tragic accident serves as a reminder about traffic safety and looking out for one another. The Frisco ISD, Heritage High School, and especially the Bourque family deserve support and sympathy from neighbors as they cope with this devastating loss.
